HOLIDAYS ACCOMMODATION GUIDE |
|
Queensland is a major holiday destination for international and domestic travellers and holiday makers. The major centres for arrival into Queensland are Brisbane, the state capital, and Cairns, a major town in the northern part of the state. Queensland's jewel in the tourist crown is the Great Barrier Reef which extends along the state coastline over a distance of approximately 2000km. The islands and coral reefs are at the centre of a large holiday resort and cruise industry with much of the tourist activity centered around the very popular Whitsunday Islands and the Cairns/Port Douglas tropical north. Gold Coast holidays and Sunshine Coast holidays have drawn generations of families to the golden Queensland beaches for their vacations. These ever popular holiday destinations are located either side of Brisbane. The two areas are favourites for holidays involving sun, sand and surf. A short distance inland and the countryside offers elevated rainforest hinterlands. Queensland offers great diversity, from an endless string of golden surf beaches in the south, to lush coastlines and equatorial tropics in the north, virgin rainforests in the eastern coastal belt, remote gulf country and savannah in the north and the vast expanses of the outback stretching away into the red centre of Australia.
