Central Queensland

This region extends from the cattle country north of Rockhampton to the sugar fields south of Bundaberg, home of the famous Bundy rum. This region has jumping-off points to the central and southern reef islands of Great Keppel, Lady Musgrave, Heron and Lady Elliot. 

Low ranges and sparsely timbered grasslands make up most of the inland areas. Major business activities involve coal mining and beef cattle, with Rockhampton being the centre of Australia's tropical beef industry.

Visitors to the region will find cruising and sailing, sport fishing, diving and snorkelling, a loggerhead turtle rookery at Mon Repos (early Nov to late Feb) and several excellent golf courses.
